Optimal Tuning of Power System Stabilizer

K. Sindhusha, B. Dasu

Abstract: Describing the Small Signal Stability of a Multimachine Power System Stabilizer (PSS) at Different Loading Conditions using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Algorithm leads to less Damping and Low frequency oscillations. The low frequency oscillations (LFO?s) are related to small signal stability of a power system and are detrimental to the goals of maximum power transfer and power system security. The Basic Assumption of the Generators for Multimachine System is same as Single Machine Infinite Bus System (SMIB). The model is studied on the basis of Small disturbance Stability on two different loading conditions, load model parameters, and Exciter gains are demonstrated. For Optimal Tuning of PSS parameters numerous techniques are available in the literature. In the present work, the effectiveness of conventional Power System Stabilizer for Multimachine System is tuned using PSO.
